Monument Valley near Flagstaff, Arizona is one of the most beautiful locations throughout the United States. It is located on the southern border of Utah. It is positioned within the range of the Navajo Nation Reservation and visitors can access it by traveling down Highway 163. Monument Valley is part of what is referred to as the Grand Circle. This includes the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon National Park, Mesa Verde, Zion Canyon, and Capital Reef, as well as other attractions.
Those visiting Monument Valley should consider a guided tour through the area. This may include the Mystery Valley area which is part of Monument Valley but is restricted area unless you have a guide. Entering into the Valley, visitors are required to pay a small fee, which is an important income for the Navajo people. Once paid, visitors can drive through the park on a 17 mile dirt road. There is also a visitor center and a small souvenir shop located on the edge of the valley. There are restaurants located here as well.
Here, you will find red sandstones that have been pushed up towards the sky from the desert floor. This creates a striding set of rock formations throughout the area. They rise off the floor in several areas, well into the air. They are made up of buttes and pinnacles. Many find that these monuments are the culture to what most Americans consider the Southwest part of the country.
