The Grand Falls on the Little Colorado River near Flagstaff, Arizona is a waterfall that is about 185 feet down. It is located just north of Winona. The falls are located on the Navajo Indian Reservation and visitors are able to travel there and see these beautiful falls. The best time of the year to visit is off season, as the crowds are less, but most importantly, the temperatures are much lower. Those taking pictures will find that the location offers many ideal spots to do so. The falls are impressive and while not as large as the Niagara Falls in New York State, they are the next most impressive.
Another interesting feature about the Grand Falls is that the Little Colorado River is a very muddy river and therefore so is the falls. The river is a rather slow moving river, even during the melting spring. Visitors can arrive at several locations around the falls. You can stop and look at the overlook which is just off the road to the falls. Or, continue down a short trail that will take you down to the base of the falls. The Grand Falls has a maximum discharge of 50,500 cubic feet per second with average discharge of 251 cubic feet per second. Visitors should make this one of the stops as they explore Monument Valley and the surrounding Navajo National Reservation.
