75th Annual Hopi Festival of Arts and Culture

Come to Flagstaff, AZ this summer to enjoy the 75th Annual Hopi Festival of Arts and Culture! Started by Museum of Northern Arizona founders Harold and Mary-Russell Ferrell Colton as a way to preserve traditional Hopi arts, culture and language, it has become an annual tradition for many Hopi families. Visitors to the festival will be immersed in Hopi language and artistry and learn about their daily lives. Over 55 Hopi artisans travel from their mesa homes to share their creations, and to help foster understanding between their culture and those of other people. There will be carvers, potters, jewelers, quilters, and weavers of all sorts sharing their work and ways with participants, as well as traditional Hopi food and drink. Authentic representations of cultural traditions like ceremonial dance, storytelling, and music will help visitors learn about the Hopi way of life. Those who prefer the outdoors will have a chance to walk the Museum's Rio de Flag Nature Trail with a Hopi medicine woman, while those who enjoy more traditional learning experiences can take part in discussions about Hopi values such as humility, respect, balance and earth stewardship. It???s sure to be a fun and enlightening time!
