The Sparwood Visitor Centre near Fernie, British Columbia is the place to stop when you want additional information, guides, as well as a helping hand in planning your trip through British Columbia. Located in Sparwood, on Aspen Drive, the centre offers a range of informative tools to help you to make your visit enjoyable. Visitors to the centre are able to stop by any time during open hours, which are generally business hours. Hours may be limited in the off season and in winter months.
The Sparwood and District Chamber of Commerce are the organization that has sponsored and works to keep the Sparwood Visitor Centre open. Many of those that work at the location are volunteers from around the region. The Sparwood Visitor Centre is a charter member of the larger, British Columbia Visitor Centre Network. Those visiting the center will be able to enjoy many helpful resources available to them including a range of pamphlets and publications from locations around British Columbia. This is a one stop shop for the activities that are available to see and too, both for educational experiences and for fun.
Sparwood itself is northeast of Fernie and has a small population of no more than 4,000 people. The location was first founded during the coal mining boom and the city was formed from the remnants of three other smaller towns (which were destroyed and a new Sparwood center opened.) Perhaps the most unique site here is the world's largest truck, which is located near to the Sparwood Visitor Centre. Visitors can also tour the local mines, enjoy a variety of local activities and of course plan their stay.
