Mount Proctor Hiking Trail is located near Fernie in British Columbia, Canada. It's located on Mount Proctor, a 7850-foot (2393 meter) high limestone mountain. According to legend, the mountain is actually a young Indian chief who had the option to marry one of three sisters, but couldn't decide which one to marry. Because he was so indecisive he was punished by being turned into a mountain. There's a set of peaks facing Mount Proctor. Legend says set of peaks, called the Three Sisters Peak, is the three maidens who, it seems, were also turned to stone.
In 1960 there was an Alpine resort at Mount Proctor. Today Mount Proctor boasts a popular hiking trail that's considered moderately difficult to complete. The Mount Proctor Hiking Trail is approximately 12 kilometers long, round trip. At a moderate pace, the average person can finish the hike in approximately nine hours. The Mount Proctor Hiking trail reaches the peak of Mount Proctor that has an elevation of 2390 meters. Elevation gain during the hike is 1340 meters or 4400 feet.
The beginning of the trail is relatively easy up until the Fairy Creek Falls. This is approximately three kilometers into the hike. Here there are also picnic tables and water. Hikers are advised to fill up their water bottles since this will be the last chance to do so until you return to the spot. A topographic map is necessary for the remainder of the Mount Proctor Hiking Trail. Rocky ridges and thin bush are common, but the views of the Three Sisters and the town of Fernie are impressive.
