Coal Creek Ghost Town near Fernie, British Columbia, Canada is just what it sounds like! This location was once a very popular, large town when the local mine was in operation. This large mine was used for many years and was a source of life to those living here. When the mine closed in the 1950's the people of the area fled for lack of employment. Visitors today can see many of the structures and the mine that once were the homes of those that lived here.
While not haunted, this empty town is a testament to the way that people lived for many years mining in the region. Today, the location is used for a number of different activities. Each year during July, the Coal Creek Picnic is held by locals. Visitors are encouraged to explore the historic places located here. Also, much of the area is now used to bike on with dirt bike and quad trails available to those that live locally. Myths surround the location including one that at the summit of Coal Creek Mountain the location is very hot. This myth is one that was put in place due to the large mine disaster that happened at the mine on May 22, 1902. This is labeled as the worst mine disaster ever to happen in British Columbia.
