Lake Leatherwood City Park in Eureka Springs, AR consists of 1,600 acres. This municipal park, located off Highway 62 in the Ozark Mountains on the west side of town, surrounds an 85 acre lake that is spring fed.
The Lake Leatherwood was formed by a large native hand-cut dam in the 1940s, which contributes to the Park being listed with the National Register of Historic Places.
If you're interested in exploring the great outdoors, there's a hiking trail that goes around the lake and is perfect for young children. Chances are good they'll see some deer, beavers, squirrels, birds or other wildlife. They also have some very good biking trails.
Fishing is very good at Lake Leatherwood wit the waters being full of crappie, blue gill, bream, channel catfish and large mouth bass. You may also want to bring your camera for pictures of the geese, bald eagles or turkeys you're very likely to see. This entire park is like a haven for wildlife. They rent canoes out if you're interested. There's a small campground here along with the utilities you need. You will also see many Corps of Engineers camp grounds on the lake nearby, which is Beaver Lake.
Eureka Springs, being the great tourist town it is, is a Victorian type of town with many old historic homes, hotels, bed & breakfasts and some great restaurants and lodging. Their motels are known to be very cheap in price. The town is a very delightful town that has all the amenities you need, but yet it offers the "out in the country" hospitality and privacy to vacation.
