Hosted by the Dawn Patrol Squadron, the Octoberfest RC Fun Fly is scheduled around the 26th to the 28th of October every year. An organization dedicated to the preservation of radio-control history, the Squadron organizes this fest to promote awareness about planes designed for radio control as well as to encourage proponents of this sport / hobby to showcase their skills with the old R/C designs.
Bearing in mind the safety of participants, the organization also recommends the use of modern radios and motors for reliability, although vintage radios are also permitted if they are reconditioned to modern day reliability standards. Provisions are also made for gas power to be replaced by electric power if desired. It is mandatory for all entrants to be in the possession of up-to-date AMA memberships. Spectators are welcome and organizers also arrange for free parking. The flying field is closed on Saturday expect for official vintage flying events. The Fly Fest is organized in four flight lines with regards to the kind of plane with the view to allow each type its own airspace.
The flying field opens at 9.00 am on Friday for early arrivals. There is no landing fee attached to fest which is flowed by a lavish buffet dinner. Applications for the fly fest are accepted online and you can also contact the President Tom Hammer at 479-253-7273, or the "A" Flight Leader Dale Locander at 479-636-5733.
