The Eureka Springs Historical Museum is dedicated to preserving the rich and varied history of the breathtaking Eureka Falls, while also educating visitors with their eclectic collection of exhibits and a number of informative and entertaining workshops.
The Museum is housed in the historic Calif House, which dates back to 1889. A large portion of the collection of exhibits that are displayed here, include family heirlooms which have been donated by the residents of this region. The museum recounts the history of this city which began with a humble populace of 10,000 souls and eventually went on to becoming one of the most popular Victorian Health Spa-resort towns, which attracts visitors from all around the globe. The Art exhibits include works by famous local artists like Louis and Elsie Freund and Glen Gant. The Cora Pinkley Call Log Cabin stands as a unique testament of a bygone era, the distinct flavor of which still lingers on at Eureka Springs.
The Museum also makes available a large collection of photographs and documents to aid researchers in their study. You can either opt for a self-guided tour of the Museum for $5, or if you plan to visit in a group of 8 or more, you can also call ahead to arrange for a costumed guide to take you around the museum. The museum also conducts walking tours like the 'Spring Walk' which tells you about the history behind Eureka Falls and how they came to be. Children can participate in school tours where they are guided through the cabin and are, through hands-on learning, taught about the daily life of the 'Hill People'. You can even stop by for a rendition of Ozark Folk music by the Arkansans Red, or learn about 'The Making of a Victorian Lady' through a series of interesting lectures, workshops and the variety of exhibits.
The Victorian 'Sophia's Parlor' makes an ideal venue to host dainty tea parties or receptions. The gift shop houses an array of innovative Eureka-related books and souvenirs. You can visit the Eureka Springs Historical Museum between 11 am and 4 pm from Monday through Saturday and from 9.30 am to 4 pm on Sunday.
