Aviation Cadet Museum in Eureka Springs, AR
The Eureka Springs Aviation Cadet museum is a great museum dedicated to all of the men who helped to build the United States air force, both in the air and on the ground. The museum is constantly growing and new exhibits are added to the existing attractions each year.
The main section of the museum is the "Air war in Vietnam" hangar and here you can marvel at a number of rare aircraft that actually flew during the war. These aircraft include an F-100, an F-105 and an F-5 and each has been lovingly stripped, restored and repainted to look exactly as it did when first built. The complete aircrafts all sit with their cockpits open and visitors are encouraged to take a look inside and even touch the controls.
The main hangar also provides sound and lighting effects and background screen projections in order to give visitors a true feel for what it would have been like to fly in a real battle situation. In addition to the aircraft there are also many information boards that tell the story of the brave men that flew during the war.
The Aviation Cadet Museum has recently opened the "Silver Wings Field" which is an authentic cadet training base that mimics life in the 40s and 50s and here you can experience life as a training cadet for the day. The site is also home to the only public airport and airfield in Eureka Springs and a fully stocked gift shop where you can buy a range of souvenirs to remember the day by.
