Easter Sunrise Services at The Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs, AR
Begin Easter with strains of beautiful music and words of wisdom at the Easter Sunrise Services at The Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs. Starting at 7 a.m. on Easter morning, the event is held at the Christ of the Ozarks Statue, a very popular attraction in the Ozarks. The highlight of the event includes the service, which is conducted by a guest speaker and is quite moving, and special music for the occasion. The event is sponsored by the Eureka Springs and Berryville Ministerial Association as well as The Great Passion Play. Admission to the event is free and everyone is invited to come be a part of this beautiful experience. The Christ of the Ozarks statue is an impressive structure in itself, and depicts Christ standing with arms wide open and is about seven stories high. Apart from being the largest Christ memorial in North America, the statue consists of 24 layers of white mortar over a steel frame, with every inch having been built by hand. The statue was completed in 1966, by late Emmet Sullivan, who was one of the artists involved in the sculpting of Mount Rushmore. Weighing over two million pounds, the hands of the statue, from the wrist to finger tip measures to approximately seven feet. There can be no better setting for an Easter morning, and the event is sure to make this day even more sacred, as you stand and pray under this magnificent memorial to Christ. On other days also the statue is accessible at all times, with no admission charge.
