The John Walter Museum in Edmonton, Alberta is located on the south bank of the North Saskatchewan River.& Nearby is the Kinsmen Sports Centre. John Walter is an important historical fixture in this community mainly for the vast number of benefits he provided to the country and especially the city of Edmonton throughout his lifetime. Those that visit the museum will be able to learn about the man as well as about the impact that his investments into the location provided.
John Walter was an entrepreneur in the area and worked to help develop the city of Edmonton. He was a large factor in the establishment of several of the city's most important aspects. This includes the general store, the carriage service, the coal mine operation, the ferry service as well as two lumber mills. Each of these and other wood related industries were added to the city through John Walter's help and hard work.
When visitors come to the John Walter Museum, they are able to see many unique exhibits and interactive displays. There are three original homes all of which were John Walter's on display. A full life story is told about him and all that he offered to the area. In addition, a history of the area is provided, including how the river valley was developed.
Guests to the museum will be able to visit on a self guided tour. Those that wish to book private events at the museum including birthday parties and school programs can do so by making call ahead arrangements. The museum is not open during the month of January.
