The John Janzen Nature Center is an organization that is devoted to the preservation of and awareness about the natural beauty of Alberta. Nestled in the heart of Edmonton's River Valley, the canter offers visitors of all ages a marvelous opportunity to view Nature in all her beauty.
The Exhibit room features an array of small native animals like the salamander and the garter snake. You can even pet young rabbits, chicks and baby bugs here. For the outdoorsy kind, the Canter offers four kilometers of nature trails where you can lose yourself to hours of self-guided, interpretative tours. Children can learn the myriad functions and the astonishing hierarchy that reigns in a beehive, with the live exhibit here. Your visit to the John Janzen Nature Center isn't complete until you have been to the Richard Ground Squirrel Exhibit. Here, you can feed these little wonders tidbits or even watch them as they scurry about, unafraid of your presence.
The Center also organizes various educational programs and workshops to enhance awareness and respect for nature in children. Here, they can revel in the myriad hues of the 'Butterfly Frolic' or embark upon an adventure in 'This Ark called Earth'. You can even enroll in a workshop to learn how to keep your surroundings clean and green through recycling and learn about the unfolding of miracles that spring bears along with it.
You can also call the Center for any queries that have to do with any aspect of nature and avail of the expert advice and wealth of information that the Naturalists offer. The Gift shop houses a large selection of nature books, field toys and unique gift ideas.
