Shalom Street in Detroit, MIHoused in the Jewish Community Center in Detroit, Shalom Street is an expansive 4,500 square foot facility that endeavors to introduce visitors to Jewish traditions and values.< The museum houses over 30 interactive exhibits that allow you to explore the Jewish way to life. The four exhibit areas are aimed towards imbibing visitors with the Jewish values of Tikkun Olam, which translates into repairing the world through volunteerism and philanthropy, while also the Jewish sense of responsibility and their unique relationship with nature, Jewish arts and the diversity of this community. At Nature's Way, the large climbing tree, the variety of animals and the beautiful waterfall allow you to build a glorious bond with nature while learning about the Jewish way of preserving and caring for life in all its multitudinous forms. You can also visit a synagogue, stop by at a traditional newsstand and watch enthralling presentations and demonstrations at the Town Center. Here, you will experience first hand, the variety and exuberance that is typical of the community. The Sharing Room allows you to partake of the everyday practices of a typical Jewish home. Here, you can taste Jewish food, identify discern the aromas wafting from the kitchen and experience lifecycle events. The exhibits that are displayed here reinforce the importance of living an ethical way of life. At the workshop, you can engage in artistic activities and rediscover the joy of crafting a thing of beauty with your own hands. You can also view demonstrations and performances by Jewish artists and craftsmen. Here, you will also learn the ways of Hiddur Mitzvah which emphasizes on beautifying the ritual of day-to-day life. You can also host your birthday parties at Shalom Street with the variety of packages that are offered here. Your package will include a party instructor to aid you in decorating the Birthday room and cleaning up after the gaieties are over, as well as free museum admission for all your guests. You can also opt from a variety of themes that Shalom Street offers... from super chef parties to world exploration, you can be sure that your special day will be an unforgettable experience.
