Michigan Renaissance Festival in Detroit, MI
The Michigan Renaissance Festival takes place during the weekends of August and September each year and is a very popular attraction for locals and visitors alike. The Festival is set in a 1800s village complete with turreted gates and battlements and all members of staff wear authentic costumes and really act the part. You can walk around the village market and buy a whole variety of handmade wares while taking in the sights and sounds of a true Renaissance pageant.
One of the most popular attractions of the Michigan Renaissance Festival is the full contact jousting competition that sees professional horsemen battling it out to be crowned champion. Other entertainments include sword swallowers, belly dancers, jugglers, musicians, jesters and even sword fighters, all of which are hugely popular with children!
You can take part in a number of skill based games and games of chance with a hope of winning a prize plus there is the Children's Realm and the Enchanted Forest complete with petting zoo for your youngsters to enjoy, you can even have them knighted during the daily knighting ceremonies. As with everything else at the Festival, the food options are varied and you can either enjoy a picnic of your own or visit one of the authentic eateries at the village. You can have Royal High Tea with the Queen or enjoy the Feast of Fantasy for a few extra dollars. Both day tickets and weekend tickets are available and you can even take your dog with you once you have pre-registered him.
