The Holocaust Memorial Center located near Detroit, Michigan pays homage to a culture that was nearly lost.& Here, displays honor the six million Jews that were killed during the Holocaust. It also commemorates the 5,000 more lives that were taken by Nazis. The goal of the memorial is to not only honor those that fell during this time, but also to educate future generations about the horrors and lessons learned when a free society is not in place.
Guided tours are available, at no cost, to explain and retell the stories of this time. Through these tours visitors get an in depth account of each exhibit and can ask questions. Groups are no larger than 30 people so that an intimate experience is had by each person in attendance.
Programs at the HMC are on going. Meet survivors, experts, authors and other speakers on a variety of topics. Many guests are international for a world wide perspective on the Holocaust.
The original Holocaust Memorial Center broke ground in December of 1981 and was the first free standing institution within the United States like it. Twenty years in the planning, the location was located on the Jewish Community Campus. Through modern technology, art and expertise, the museum educates and provides visitors with a unique perspective on this tragic event in world history.
Rental space is available to those in the area. Seminars, events, and meetings can be booked in advance.
The Holocaust Memorial Center is open seasonally with guided tours able to be booked upon arrival. It is highly recommended that visitors have a basic knowledge of the Holocaust prior to arrival, yet everyone will learn and grow in this experience.
