Detroit Zoo in Detroit, MI
The Detroit Zoo is home to nearly 3000 animals, many of which live in simulated environments identical to their own natural habitats. You can see everything from the giraffes and lions of Africa to kangaroos from the Australian outback. Many of the different habitats have a number of activities within them that keep children happy and entertained for hours before moving on to the next.
As well as the outdoor attractions there is also a number of indoor attractions which means the Zoo is a good place to visit even in wet weather. You can walk through the transparent tunnels of the 'Arctic Ring of Life' and see polar bears and sea lions swimming in the water above you or you can visit Amphibiville and learn about the amphibians there and what measures are being taken to conserve them.
As well as all the animals and birds at the Detroit Zoo, there are also a number of other fun attractions to make the most of including the wild Log Ride simulator that has you zooming down mountainsides and splashing into rivers without getting wet, the Wilderness Adventure simulator where you see the world through the eyes of different animals with top quality sights and sounds and for smaller children there is the Tauber Family Railroad that will take you around the park in comfort and style.
The Zoo is open daily from 10am until 5pm and there are numerous eateries and snack carts within the complex. In addition there are two gift shops and a photo service that can take pictures of your day out before putting your favorite pictures onto mugs, key rings and other mementos to remember your day by.
