The Air Force Armament Museum in Fort Walton Beach, Florida is a one of a kind museum dedicated to providing visitors with the only display of Air Force armament in the United States.& The museum is located just outside the main gate of the Eglin Air Force Base. Visitors are permitted to walk around and see many historical planes and memorabilia from throughout the Air Force's history.
Some of the best exhibits here include the B-17 World War II bomber that is on display as well as the F-4 Phantom II Jet. Guests are not charged an admission to view the museum and the location is open year round except for federal holidays.
Within the museum is a theater that shows the movie "Arming the Air Force" that visitors are encouraged to watch. It tells of the history of the Eglin Air Force Base as well as the development of the armament. This 32 minute long movie offers an explanation of the armament. There are also several exhibits of aircraft throughout. Each of the various types of aircraft represents a specific war era. For example, there is an F-105 from the Vietnam War, an F-80 Shooting Star from the Korean War and a P-51 Mustang and P-47 from World War II.
There is also an armament exhibit which includes a huge selection of missiles, rockets and bombs as well as the new air to air missiles that were used in Dessert Storm. A gun vault offers weapons of all types and explains their uses and abilities.
A gift shop is also located in the museum.
