The goal of the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver Colorado strives to get people of all ages excited about all things to do with aviation, in the past, present and future. The museum has several exhibits that were once displayed in Air Force classrooms. These exhibits include the Flying Tigers, the Science of Flight, the Colorado Aviation Historical Society Heritage Hall, and the History of Avionics. Visitors to the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum are greeted by a B-52 Stratofortress. The entire museum is actually a 1930s-era former Air Force hangar.
Some of the highlights of the museums 36 plus displays of airplanes and space vehicles include a RF-84K Thunderflash parasite, an uncommon B-18A Bolo, a Star Wars X-Wing Fighter, a B-1A Lancer, five of the Century Series fighters, and an Alexander Eaglerock that was built in Colorado. The Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum has several exhibit rooms devoted to each showcasing certain areas of the aviation. Exhibit rooms include one dedicated to the evolution of aircraft technology (Timeline of Technology Room), the Avionics Room (all about aviation radio), a room dedicated to the Colorado National Guard and another room for the Colorado Aviation Historical Society.
The museum has an Eisenhower room which shows artifacts from the time Denver served as the summer White House for Eisenhower. There's also the Science of Flight Room and the Howard Model Collection Room, which showcases original aircraft designs by Fred Howard. The Lowry Room displays items from the history of the Lowry Air Force Base. The museum was established in 1994 and is in the process of creating a Hangar 2 site. The Hangar 2 site will have 250 residential units and a special roof to allow in sunlight.
