The Museum of Contemporary Art is Denver, Colorado is located on 15th Street. Known as the MCA, it is a very unique museum within a beautiful building. The purpose of the museum is to present a very unique forum that makes people think and talk about art in a special way. All audiences are challenged, encouraged and inspired by what they find here. The museum was first founded in 1996 and since has provided this experience to the many visitors that have come.
The museum was created by the community as well as many of the artists you will find within it. They wanted to provide a location that would not only house the various pieces of contemporary art that they had, but also to provide a showcase to the beauty of art in today's world. This became the permanent home for many of those pieces. While started by a limited number in the community and artists within, it has become a much more diverse organization that provides more to a larger audience base. Visitors include a large number of diverse families, artists and scholars available to help. Even those that are not familiar with contemporary pieces will have something to talk and wonder about.
The Museum of Contemporary Art is open daily, with limited hours of operation on Sundays. Visitors are encouraged to become members and rates for admittance are very low. Groups including school groups and youth organizations are welcomed. Tours, including guided tours are available to be booked.
