Founded in 2003, the Downtown Aquarium in Denver is a unique place for visitors to experience the diversity and effervescence of the animal kingdom. Dedicated to the preservation of endangered and threatened species, the aquarium also educates visitors about the importance of conservation through various exhibits, workshops and camps.
The aquarium is divided into four sections that depict aquatic life-forms in a variety of simulated environments. The Under the Sea exhibit depicts the coral reef habitat, while the At the Wharf exhibit houses animals that have adapted in intriguing ways to the rough environment. You can also view a variety of animals here in habitats ranging from dry arid deserts to the lush environs of tropical rainforests. The aquarium is home to more than 500 species of animals with as many as 12 endangered and threatened species of fish, six species of reptiles and two species each of mammals and birds. The interactive exhibits include a Horse Shoe Crab Touch Tank and a Sting Ray Touch and Feed tank.
The aquarium also conducts several workshops which let you be a marine biologist, a zoologist or even experience the behind the scenes action at the Downtown Aquarium for a day. You can even go scuba diving with the myriad species of fish in the Under the Sea exhibit. The aquarium also hosts a Sea Safari camp for children, which is conducted over a period of four days. The Wild Dreams Overnight Workshop lets you spend a night at the aquarium, surrounded by exotic marine beauties and also learn more about them through various activities and games.
The Auqarium restaurant offers a unique opportunity for diners to feast on seafood delicacies, steaks, salads and tempting desserts, while seated around the 150,000 gallon aquarium. For afters, you can step into the bar, located on the first floor of the aquarium... and if you make between 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm on weekdays, you can even avail of the happy hours. You can even host your birthday party here, at the Downtown Aquarium. With exciting packages like the First Mate package and the Captain package which include a birthday cake and a trip through the exhibits, you can be sure your celebration is going to be a one-of-a-kind experience. For corporate meetings and receptions, the Nautilus Ballroom, which seats up to 250 guests who are surrounded by hand painted ceilings, beaded chandeliers and catered to by an award-winning culinary theme, makes for an ideal option.
The aquarium's gift shop also known as the Treasure Chest offers visitors innovative gift ideas like souvenirs, toys and even apparel, all of which are based on a distinct marine theme. You can also purchase Downtown Aquarium Gift Cards, either over the website or at the aquarium itself. Available in denominations ranging from $20 to $200, these cards are good at any of the Laundry's chain of restaurants.
The Downtown Aquarium is open from 10 am to 10 pm, Monday through Friday, and from 10 am to 11 pm on Saturday.
