The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in Denver, Colorado is a location that pays tribute to the many sports greats from the local area. It was first talked about and planned for in 1960. The first president of the Sports Hall of Fame Committee was Roger Doughetry and future inductee Byron White was a key part of the development as well. In 1998, the first discussions of building a brick and mortar museum took place and the idea of placing the museum within the Denver Broncos Stadium. This ideal had a firm grip in the area. The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame Museum was first opened in 2001.
The museum is currently open Thursdays through Saturdays, for a limited amount of time during the day. This schedule changes often with the football schedule of the stadium. During football games, the museum itself is not open to the public.
The museum offers many exhibits to honor special sports greats in the area. All sports stars are considered able to be inducted and inductions take place yearly. Both well known and little known successful athletes are included. Those that are inducted are considered based on their leadership, sportsmanship, sacrifice, courage, power and endurance.
The museum is located on the west side of INVESCO Field at Mile High. This sport's history journey is one that is inspiring and will bring back many memories. While a stroll through the museum is free of charge, the tours that are available must be paid for. Private events can be planned for in advance.
