Buffalo Bill's Museum and Grave is a unique opportunity for visitors to look behind the legendary name, and into the man that was Buffalo Bill. Founded in 1921 by Johnny Baker, Buffalo Bill's foster son, the museum features an array of exhibits that detail the life of Buffalo Bill and also the last resting place of this celebrated cowboy.
Born in 1846, William F Cody, who was later awarded the sobriquet Buffalo Bill, traveled the world as a worker on a wagon train, a gold miner and even an army scout. His Wild West shows have traveled the world over, introducing their vast and diverse audiences to Cowboys. At the Museum, you can view a number of unique exhibits like the Sitting Bull's bow and arrows, Buffalo Bill's show outfits, several other Indian artifacts and even Western Firearms. The museum also features a special temporary exhibit every year apart from its permanent collection. You can also view numerous photographs depicting the glorious days of Buffalo Bill and silent Film footage of the famous Wild West show.
Children have plenty to do at the museum. With a large tepee, where they can play, and a simulated cow-pony they can ride on, you can be sure that your little ones will never tire of visiting the museum. The museum also houses research files on Buffalo Bill and the Wild West shows... you can even find a rare original play script here which dates back to Buffalo Bill's acting days and letters pertaining to his businesses.
You can also visit Lookout Mountain, where from two observation decks, you can view Buffalo Bill's burial site. The simple rustic grave, surrounded by a wrought iron fence and the breathtaking backdrop of the Rockies, is bound to make you pause for a while and contemplate about the magnificent life and adventures of the luminary that lies beneath it.
The Museum also has a coffee shop where you can stop for a Buffalo Burger and homemade fudge. The Pahaska Tepee Gift Shop has a number of unique souvenirs like books, works of art and even a selection of Western Toys.
You can visit Buffalo Bill's Museum between 9 am and 5 pm, from the 1st of May through the end of October and 9 am to 4 pm from November 1 to April 31.
