Who wouldn't like to go shopping in what has been called "the world's most famous beach community"? Daytona Beach on Florida's Atlantic coast has long been one of the most famous vacation beaches in the United States, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Many of those visitors head for Beach Street and Daytona's renowned Downtown Marketplace. This is also the historic part of Daytona Beach, so visitors can mix shopping with a nostalgic look into a time gone by. If you're here in April you might be able to take in the Riverfront Artfaire.
The Riverfront Marketplace in Daytona Beach is lined with great places to eat and quaint shops and boutiques. The main shopping mall is between the Main Street and Silver Street Bridges. You can find everything here from fashionable clothing to charming antiques. After dark there are lively nightclubs. You can stroll along the palm tree lined street, or you can ride the tram. You'll see a lot of people riding bikes or jogging. Right across the road is the beach, which is 500 feet wide at low tide.
Of course, there are a lot of other things to do besides shop. The water in the Atlantic here is a perfect temperature for swimming and water sports. You might want to try your luck fishing from the Sunglow Pier, or just walk along it to enjoy the ocean view. You can have a tour of the world famous Angell and Phelps Chocolate Factory, or the historical Halifax Museum (named for the local river). Also nearby are the Lively Arts Center, the Seaside Music Theater, Manatee Island, Jackie Robinson Ball Park and the Rose Gardens. This is a wonderful place to visit any time of the year.
