A great place for families and history buffs, the Pioneer Settlement for the Creative Arts is a historical village set in a moss-draped oak hammock that takes visitors back in time to experience the life of the early settlers. Featuring buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Settlement offers guided tours through its unique brand of cultural history.
Visitors will find themselves transported back in time as they pass historical re-enactors at the old Print Shop, Railroad Depot, Blacksmith Shop, Lewis Log Cabin, Turpentine General Store, Huntington Post Office, and Carriage House before finally reaching the Timucuan-Myacca and Seminole Indian Villages.
The Settlement also houses a permanent museum, and is host to workshops, demonstrations, and the popular annual Barberville Jamboree Festival, which features historical demonstrations, artisans, music, arts and crafts, exhibits, storytelling, and famous Florida "Cracker"-style food. Visitors can take home a piece of the past from the gift shop, which features bonnets, felted hats, hand-woven rugs, handmade pottery, and toys.
