Visitors to the city of Ormond Beach, near Daytona Beach, will find a small town and the
Tomoka State Park. The area was once in the hands of Timucuan Indians and was then called Nocoroco. Today, this region is the
Tomoka State Park. Over time things have changed incredibly and now the city is a big draw to tourism. When you visit the city, take the time to enjoy some of the local historical places of interest. For example, you may wish to stop by the Anderson price Memorial Library Building to see some of the oldest books, maps and collections in the region. You can also visit locations such as The Hammocks, John Anderson Lodge and The Porches, each with a historical significance.
Within the city, there are several well known parks including the North Peninsula State Park, the Ormond Memorial Art Museum Gardens, The Highbridge Park and Bulow Creek State Park. Many people come because of the location. Ormond Beach is located right on the Halifax River in a lagoon region, adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean. This gives it a nice, warm climate that is somewhat sheltered. When you are done spending time on the beach, you may wish to do some shopping include at The Trails Shopping Center, South Forty Shopping Center, Ormond Mall or Ormond Town Square. As a city with a growing population, there is always something to do here, it seems, and there is definitely a lot to enjoy. It is also just far enough from Daytona Beach that the crowds are lower.
