The Halifax Historical Museum, located in Daytona Beach Florida, is a fantastic, full filled museum featuring many ancient artifacts from local Native Americans. This history museum provides a variety of information and resources, including some items dating back to 5,000 BC. You will find Spanish and British items from colonial times, Native American artifacts, items from early pioneer families, and World War II items. There is even a beautiful collection of vintage toys, sure to dazzle even today's children.
In addition to providing these displays, the Halifax Historical Museum also provides a number of services to the community, including a research facility. Here, visitors can look through old city directories, find maps dating back several hundred years and look at old documents. Some of the best here are extensive photograph and post card collections that almost tell history themselves. The location is interesting in that it was a Merchant Bank dating back nearly 100 years. There is a theater located here for up to 60 people. The theater regularly provides a variety of information and educational programming, including a variety of programs about the local history.
The museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays. There is an admission charge, but it is low and there may be special discounts available some days. Those coming will want to plan to spend four to six hours touring the facility. Also, be sure to locate the Beaux Arts styling of the interior walls. These hand painted murals are one of the many reasons the location has become such a historical landmark for the region.
