Palancar Horseshoe in Cozumel, Mexico
Cozumel has been blessed with several outstanding reefs that host an
array of marine life. Divers are drawn to this Mexican island just for
this reason. The many reefs and formations make an ecosystem that is
unique to this area. Along with the crystal waters and the tropical
atmosphere; Cozumel is a favorite tourist destination. The reefs of
Cozumel are a protected national park which extends down to the Bay of
Honduras and makes up 85 percent of the dive sites available to the
island.
Palancar Horseshoe is a gorgeous reef that is a favorite for divers.
This reef hosts an array of marine species. Schools of tropical fish in
a variety of colors and patters can be seen cascading over the reef.
Murray eels take silent refuge here waiting patiently for their next
meal. Even sharks, dolphins, and numerous other species can be seen in
the waters surrounding the Palancar Horseshoe. With the clarity of the
water, visibility can reach up to 250 feet which is truly amazing.
The Horseshoe reef is just a part of the larger Palancar Reef which is
world famous among divers. This reef receives its name from the coral
heads which creates a horse shoe shape. The reef is 20 feet to 100 feet
in depth and can be a great place for divers of varying skill levels.
Given the popularity and the array of marine species, the Palancar
Horseshoe is one of the busiest dive spot in all of Cozumel. It is
defiantly worth seeing for visitors, divers and photographers.
