The Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado is a non-profit museum run entirely by volunteer staff. It was established in March 1992 and has more of a focus on the people behind the creation of many motorcycles instead of the actual motorcycles.
In the Rocky Mountain museum visitors will find the names and pictures of those who are considered the pioneers of motorcycling. Biographies of these people are also found throughout the museum. The museum has a Hall of Fame featuring individuals who have devoted significant parts of their lives to motorcycling. These types of people are the main individuals honored in this Hall of Fame, although there is also some information about famous riders who have contributed significantly to the motorcycling heritage.
Every year a new individual is recognized in the Hall of Fame. The museum adds this person to its collection and includes a picture and information about their contributions and achievements to the motorcycling community. All photographs have captions that explain the subject. The museum also has a collection of original artwork, rare prints and autographed portraits. Some of the autographed portraits the museum has are of Jay Leno, David Crosby and Malcolm Forbes.
The Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Museum also has a large section dedicated to motorcycle-related memorabilia. Such memorabilia includes banners, clothing, accessories, vintage leather apparel, dealer signs and banners, sidecars, pins, trophies and patches. The museum carries motorcycles as well. It has more than 50 original and completely restored vintage and antique motorcycles such as Excelsiors, Indians, Harley-Davidsons, Hondas, Panthers, Mustangs, and Vincients.
