The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad is a train that goes from Alamosa to La Veta.& Also, the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad shares a depot with the San Luis Railroad; which is downtown Alamosa. Before passengers get on the train they can enjoy all the different shops and attractions, and while on the train, the passengers will be able to see all the scenes of nature!
When it comes to the cars of the train, many of them are relatively new! In fact, most of the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad's cars for passengers are from the 1950's; however, they have been restored and remodeled. Many of the cars not only have air conditioning, but they also have added amenities! Along with the 1950's cars, there is also a 1930's "observation" car that has bench seating and opening windows.
Added in 2007, were a concession car and a first class parlor car; which are both specialty cars. The concession car offers sandwiches, snacks and drinks, and the parlor car offers the option of upgrading to first class riding with swivel seats and complimentary drinks.
In early 2007, the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad purchased the SP-1744; which is a fully restored steam locomotive that was once running full service in 1901. Today, it is used to pull the San Luis Express on the La Veta Pass on weekends, holidays, special events, or charted tours.
