The Pikes Peak Auto Hill Climb Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado offers a variety of educational exhibits all based on vehicle history. This includes automobiles, motorcycles and carriage history. The museum is located on Manitou Avenue. The museum's goal is promote motor sports technology awareness and to offer a look at historical and current automotive engineering. They also work to keep the spirit of Pikes Peak Climb alive and well.
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the second oldest motor sports event in the country. In Colorado Springs, it is a tradition. It has been happening every year since 1916. The event is a 12 mile course that will begin at 9,200 feet and then finishes at 14,110 feet, at the summit that is located there on Pikes Peak. There are a variety of different automotive and motorcycle classes that enter the race. In many races, there are, on average, 150 drivers participating with some 500 volunteers working side by side for them.
Those that wish to participate should contact the Director of Operations. The event happens yearly, around the summer months, but the planning for the event is a year round process. Event volunteers are constantly needed year round.
Those that wish to visit the museum can do so year round. The hours of operation are seasonal. Guests are able to walk around on this self guided tour or to ask for a guided tour.
