The McAllister House Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado is located on North Cascade Avenue. Visitors to this museum will find it enjoyable, quaint and even surprisingly familiar in its charm and attention to detail. The house was first built in 1873 and has served as a long term home for the McAllister Family. When visiting, you will approach the cottage from the front, as if walking to the home to visit. The gardens surrounding it are beautiful and very authentic. From here, guests will rise up to the door and ring a bell prior to being admitted. In fact, you must wait at the door for the guide to answer and escort you inside. This takes just seconds and yet makes a profound statement.
Visitors will find themselves stepping into a cottage style home that is very much that of the Victorian era. Inside, a variety of Victorian era pieces are found including rooms decorated with the beauty and style of this time frame. This allows guests to literally step into this time period. Each room offers specially selected and original items dating back to this time frame. This includes beautiful ornate chairs, deeply colored rose drapery, and even high back sofas reminiscent of this era. Be sure to spot the fireplace which is amazing in its design of marble. In the children's room, you are able to enjoy all of the small toys and furniture, typical of the time period that these people used.
All guests are given tours and the admission price is very low.
