Historical Street Railway Foundation Museum in Colorado Springs, Colorado offers a museum that offers a wide selection of trolley and railroad cars for visitors to explore. The museum is an informal location which houses great memorabilia including old photographs, various hand sized models of trolley and railroad cars and there are even sketches of some of the models used here. Those that are available at the museum are volunteers but since many of them are passionate about the Colorado Springs railroads, they are more than willing to offer interested visitors a tour of the facility.
Small pieces such as an original fare box and the brass door handles that were on the trolleys are available. There is a trolley repair garage located here, too, where visitors can see the three trolleys that are currently being restored. The museum is owned and operated by the Pikes Peak Historical Street Railway Foundation. The museum works to restore many of these older trolley cars. The goal is to provide an education to the community about this time period and the importance of the railway and trolley car.
The museum is standing in the building that was used in the area as a roundhouse back in 1888. The building was used by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Company. The museum is housed within two of the original trolley stalls. The building has 12 to 16 of these. Those that worked in the building were part of the many that moved to the area and settled the town of Roswell. They, along with the local coal miners, were able to establish a "good life" in the area for many years. Later, the town of Roswell would be annexed to Colorado Springs.
