The El Pomar Carriage House Museum is not a house, it is actually a museum that shows off the possessions that Spencer Penrose once owned. In fact, the museum was opened in 1937, and was continued by his wife Julie.
At the El Pomar Carriage House Museum you will be able to see many different belongings that the couple owned. In fact, one of the biggest and best things that people like to see when they come to the museum is the collection of 33 horse drawn carriages; some that date back to the mid 19th century. Another very important exhibit that many people come to the museum to see is the showcase of five automobiles. The automobiles are not just ordinary ones; they are however, all made before the year 1928. Along with seeing the different types of cars and carriages, you will be able to see a collection of ornate saddles, different types of safes (for holding valuables), photographs, and many other historical pieces from Penrose's collection. In fact, many of the saddles that are shown were worn on horses by polo players, the U.S. Army and Mongolian soldiers.
When visitors come to the museum, they will also learn a bit more of the history of the Broadmoor, as well as telling the story behind the starting point for the Broadmoor and any related history to either. Along with all the other exhibits, you will be able to see Mrs. Penrose's 1928 Cadillac limousine! The El Pomar Carriage House Museum is definitely a place for the history and car lover!!
