Colorado Gators Reptilian Adventure, located in Colorado Springs, and the Colorado Gators Reptile Park located in Mosca, Colorado are the only places in Colorado that you can see alligators! While many do not realize that they can visit the alligators so far from their normal home, here you can.& Mosca is located about 17 miles from Alamosa. They even feature an alligator wrestling class.
The Colorado Gators Reptile Park was first a tilapia farm. Because there were hot springs located on the property, the location began to raise white fish in 1977. Unfortunately, this did not work as the ecosystem was too extreme for the fish. But, alligators do like this unique ecosystem and soon owners Erwin and Lynne Young had a thriving location. Although it may sound like the location is nothing more than fun, it offers a sanctuary from those pets that are purchased by owners unable to care for the exotic reptiles, a common and growing problem in many areas.
There is a fish farm located here, still, along with the alligators, tortoises, pythons, and iguanas are a few of the additional animals that have arrived. The park hosts a variety of special events including a Gatorfest that is held yearly.
In addition, a second park affiliated with the first opened in nearby Colorado Springs. This park, called Colorado Gators Reptilian Adventure also offers the same helping hand to animals in need. It features incredible reptiles including crocodiles, alligators, and monitor lizards, to name a few. All funds from any of the parks are used to help with the rescue efforts.
