Art lovers will enjoy the Contemporary Arts Center, which first established its pioneering tradition when it became one of the first American institutions to exhibit Picasso's Guernica in 1940. The Center went on to feature work by many then-unknown artists, including Andy Warhol, I.M. Pei, Laurie Anderson, Robert Rauschenberg, and Jasper Johns.
The Center does not keep a permanent collection, so visitors are always assured of finding something new in the exhibit halls, from painting, sculpture, and architecture, to photography, performance art, and new media. Budding young artists will enjoy the UnMuseum, a gallery of art created specifically for young people where kids can interpret art, work on hands-on art projects, or enjoy group projects on family days.
