The Natural History and Science Museum is one of the attractions housed in the Union Terminal in Cincinnati. The Terminal was built in 1933 as the Union Terminal train station and was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1977. Following renovation it was opened as the Cincinnati Museum Center in 1990.
The Natural History and Science Museum features exhibitions and interactive displays of the living world. Visit the glacier and Ohio Valley during the Ice Age. Explore the cave systems using either the beginner's or advanced trails. Find your way along the dark passages, and view waterfalls, fossils and a live Big Brown bat colony. Learn about the types of animals that lived in the Greater Cincinnati area thousands of years ago. There are many interactive exhibits of the human body including 'All About You' which teaches children about the body with the help of 'Mr Bones' and 'Stuffee'. There are also exhibits on migration, extinction, and live demonstrations from gardening to collecting and preserving fossils. At Nature's Trading post young visitors can bring in their finds, such as shell, plants and fossils, and earn points for telling the Center staff about them.
The Museum Center has a pizza restaurant and cafe, and the Rockwood Ice Parlor has ice creams, smoothies and a variety of snacks for sale. There are three gift shops - Store to Explore selling toys, educational games, books and DVDs relating to your favorite exhibits, the Children's Gift Shop and Collectors Gallery. The Museum Center has a program of events to suit all the family such as lectures and workshops, day camps, sleepovers and birthday parties.
