Saint James Chapel, Chicago, IL
Between 1871 and 1920, Chicago was a world leader in the production of stained glass, and it was during this era that the beautiful windows of Saint James Chapel were constructed. The windows of this glorious sanctuary are set into a curved wall in the front, each are 30 feet high and 7 feet wide, and each contain ten medallions in two vertical columns. The windows tell the story and parables of Christ.
The unique and fantastic altar represents Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. Special events are held throughout the year, many of them sponsored by "Friends of the Windows," a group of local Chicagoans of many faiths who are dedicated to the preservation and protection of the lovely chapel windows. The concerts and tours are free. If you are in the Chicago area, you owe it to yourself to visit this unique and fantastic chapel. No tickets or reservations are needed.
