Grant Park, Chicago's principle downtown park, is based on the geometric designs of French parks and features bridges, open lawns, trees, monuments, paths, three museums, and an amazing fountain.
After Chicago's great fire of 1871, the debris and rubble was pushed into the lake creating the fill for what is now the park. Named in honor of America's 18th President Ulysses S. Grant, one of the parks main attractions is the Clarence Buckingham Fountain. Built by Kate Buckingham to honor her late brother, the fountain is based on the Bassin de Latome located at the Palace of Versailles near Paris. A highlight of the fountain is a central jet that shoots water up to 150 feet into the air. The park is a favorite among joggers, bikers, and people wanting to get out and escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a bit. The park is also home to a variety of festivals, concerts, and other events throughout the year. Grant Park offers a relaxing oasis in which to enjoy the beauty of the amazing city of Chicago.
