Wonderland Express at Chicago Botanic Garden, Glencoe, IL

The annual holiday Wonderland Express garden exhibit at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Illinois has fast become a delightful tradition for families in the area. Every year from late November through mid-January, the garden decorates its 100,000 square foot Regenstein Center with almost a million twinkling Christmas lights, which accentuate the Wonderland Express exhibit itself - a 10,000 square foot display of model trains that wind through a holiday-themed garden. The train's complicated and breathtaking track travels over miniature waterfalls and bridges, and past dozens of mini-replicas of Chicago landmarks.

This exhibition, which was designed by Paul Busse, has been lauded for its intent attention to detail and its unique interconnection with nature. This large-scale exhibit has something for everyone - between the engineering of the trains, the details of the miniatures, the sparkle of the lights and the living exhibit of the plants, no one will leave bored.
