Chicago ShoppingIf you're a serious shopper, you'll realize that Chicago is a shopper's paradise. If you're more into window shopping, you'll find plenty of eye candy here. The sheer volume of shops--from one-of-a-kind specialty shops to the grand showcases for brand-name stores--is enough to turn even the most reluctant shopper into a shop-a-holic. Here are a few places you won't want to miss: SHOPPING MALLS Water Tower Place. Right on the Magnificent Mile, this is one of the most famous--and popular--malls in Chicago. Here you can find more than 100 shops and restaurants with names such as Marshall Field's, Lord and Taylor and more. The mall features an eight-level atrium to offer you beauty and elegance with high-end shopping. 900 North Michigan Shops. Again, this mall is located along the Magnificent Mile. You'll find some of the most fabulous shopping in this building, including Bloomingdale's, Benetton, bebe, Coach, Cache, Williams-Sonoma Grande Cuisine, Mark Shale, and Jessica McClintock. For a mid-shopping break, you can get the full spa treatment at Mario Tricoci. Or grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants located within the building, including Johnny Rockets and Corner Bakery. SHOPPING DISTRICTS Magnificent Mile. Chicago's Magnificent Mile is located on Michigan Avenue, between the Chicago River and the Drake Hotel, and houses the finest in shopping and dining experiences. Within a short walk, you'll find Water Tower Place, Border's Books and Music, FAO Schwartz, Virgin Records, and Hammacher Schlemmer & Company. Oak Street. Right off of Michigan Avenue, this street is the Rolls Royce of Chicago shopping. More than 70 boutiques and salons are located on this street, with names like Giorgio Armani, Hino & Malee, and Ultimo. State Street. The historic shopping area of State Street offers shopping at stores such as Marshal Field's, Carson Pierre Scott, and Sears. You'll also find Jewelers Row, the largest shopping district in the U.S. where you can buy diamonds and fine gems. SPECIALTY STORES The Alley. A very popular, alternative shopping site is the Alley, located on Belmont and Clark. The store features items such as Doc Martin boots, lingerie, jewelry, motorcycle jackets, Zippos, hair dye and more. Three Dog Bakery. Located on Halsted Street, you'll find all sorts of specialty pooch items, including leashes, toys, books, and treats. Doggie bakery items are, of course, their specialty--you can order a birthday cake for your best friend, or just remember to bring home an extra-special treat. OUTLETS Gurnee Mills. Located about an hour north of Chicago, just off of I94, in the suburb of Gurnee is Gurnee Mills. This discount outlet shopping mall features over 220 stores that offer up to 60% off retail prices every day. You'll find names like Bass Pros Shops Outdoor World, Rainforest Caf', Liz Claiborne, Saks Fifth Ave and a 20 screen movie theatre as well as a Serpent Safari. |
