Visit the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to see one of America's finest metropolitan universities.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's (UTC's) campus is full of beautiful architecture and landscape. You'll see trees, flowers, and impressive modern and classic architecture all on a campus located near downtown Chattanooga. This university has become a fast-growing school for students both in and out of Tennessee.
The school was founded in 1886 as Chattanooga University with the help of the Methodist Episcopal Church. UTC was a private school for 83 years and had different names such as Grant University and the University of Chattanooga. Since 1969, the school has been merged with Chattanooga City College and is now the school of approximately 7,300 students under 404 faculty in both graduate and undergraduate programs.
Some notable alumni of UTC include football player Terrell Owens, physician Earl Lowry (coined the term medicare), actor Dennis Haskins, and chemist Dr. Irvine W. Grote (inventor of Rolaids and Bufferin). With a mix of interesting history, beautiful sights, and distinguished alumni, UTC is a place you'll want to drop in to see!
