The Gordon-Lee Mansion, located just 18 miles away from Chattanooga, is a preserved plantation mansion that is reminiscent of Southern life before the Civil War. The Gordon-Lee Mansion, built in 1847, is the only structure that survived the Battle of Chickamauga. In 1863, this house was used as Union army General William Rosecrans' headquarters, and later in the year, the mansion served as seven division hospitals during the Battle of Chickamauga. A cannon battle during the Battle of Chickamauga occurred on the mansion's grounds as well. Under its current ownership, the mansion has been restored to its original Federal, Empire, and early Victorian decor and is open to the public.
The whole family is invited including the children to the original Gordon Lee Mansion which was historically the Gordon home built by James Gordon for his family along with his two brothers.
