Located about 10 miles away from downtown Chattanooga, the Chickamauga National Military Park is a great destination for sightseeing and Civil War history. Chickamauga National Military Park was established in 1890 to maintain the Chickamauga and
Lookout Mountain battlefields. On the two battlefields, this park has monuments, wayside exhibits, historical tablets and markers, and trails. The 5,200-acre Chickamauga Battlefield is the setting of the last Confederate army victory during the Civil War.
Lookout Mountain Battlefield spans 3,000 acres and features Point Park on the top of the mountain. Point Park's visitor center has on display James Walker's 13 by 33 foot painting, "Battle of
Lookout Mountain."
