War Between the States Day at The Gordon-Lee Mansion in Chickamauga, GA

The whole family is invited including the children to the original Gordon Lee Mansion which was historically the Gordon home built by James Gordon for his family along with his two brothers.

They originated from Gwinnett County in George around 1836 and came to Chickamauga, which was formerly named Crawfish Springs, Georgia. The mansion construction started in 1840 and took seven years to complete. Residence grounds were used to create the bricks used in construction.

During the War Between the States, the main house was used by the Union Army for General Rosecrans Headquarters right before the Battle of Chickamauga. As the battle went on, the house was turned into a hospital. Reports now show that many soldiers died in the house with many love notes to their families scribbled on the walls before they died. The James Lee family girls made copies of the notes and sent them back to the families. Currently, the War Between the States Day is celebrated each year at the mansion with many festivities for the whole family to enjoy.
