Family vacations to Chattanooga should incorporate all of the best sites, like Rock City and Ruby Falls, but should also touch on some of the lesser known activities as well. These include such activities as rafting and hiking, a mystery dinner theater, and visits to a museum or two. These all make for awesome family outings and will be pleasurable for all members of your group. Here are some of our suggestions for activities.

Rock City

By far the best place to go in Chattanooga, this is one spot that you shouldn't miss in any vacation. It is also a great place to go for a honeymooners, but families will enjoy the vast array of activities that can be found. The trails, displays, rock formations, interesting plant life, a swinging bridge, and a rock that shows you how you can see 7 states make this a huge attraction for people of all ages.

Ruby Falls

Who doesn't love the coolness of a cave and the rushing sound of a waterfall? Here you get both for one low price. You will be led down a cave, shown some very interesting formations, learn about what makes a cave, find out the difference between stalactites and stalagmites, and much more. Then at the end, you will get to see the world's largest underground waterfall. It just doesn't get much cooler than that.

Creative Discovery Museum

The best activity for young kids is the Creative Discovery Museum. Your kids will enjoy playing with the toys, all the while learning about science and math! If your kids love dinosaurs, then they will probably enjoy the Excavation Station, where they will have fun trying to be real archaeologists. Whatever their tastes, it is guaranteed that they will have fun at this activity.

Chattanooga Nature Center

The Chattanooga Nature Center is another fine place to take kids of any age. The trails will give your kids hours of fun, while giving them a chance to see 30 native species of animals. You can enjoy the serenity of Lookout Mountain as you spend quality time with your family.

Crystal Palace Cave Tour

If you don't want to go to Ruby Falls because you are afraid of the crowds, or you had so much fun that you want to visit another cave, Crystal Palace would be the perfect spot for you. It offers a similar setting, but different attractions. You will see rimstone pools, natural bridges, and ancient fossils in this quarter mile deep cave tour.

Lookout Mountain Attractions
All of the attractions were great. We did learn that you don't do both Ruby Falls and Rock City in the same day if you are old. It was just beautiful.

Lookout Mountain Attractions
The attraction was great, but the guide to Ruby Falls complained the entire tour about how tired she was and how much sleep she had not had. Other than that, everything was superb.
