Lovers Leap Views at Rock City

Take a closer look at the world-famous Rock City and learn about everything from Lover's Leap to Fat Man's Squeeze. The area is famous for its spectacular views but there is a bit more happening at the Lookout Mountain Attractions than you might think. Between seasonal holiday celebrations and other festivities, the attraction is always thinking of new ways to keep visitors interested.

History
Although the history of such a geological marvel could extend back millions of years, the attraction itself only reaches back as far as the Great Depression. A Tennessee native, Garnet Carter was the man who would popularize the area's biggest assets. He would also invent miniature golf. After realizing how profitable the Rock City attraction could be for his family, he opened the attraction to the public in 1932. Since the attraction was not next to a road however, and could not be easily seen, he had to come with a novel advertising system.

Advertising
Part of the campaign was advertising Rock City as the 8th wonder of the world, where you can see 7 states from the peak. This attracted many visitors, despite the fact that you can't see 7 states due to the earth being round. Although you can't actually see seven states, it is still a beautiful site, filled with stunning cliff walls and trails that a visitor won't regret walking.

Attractions
Rock City is a popular attraction for a number of reasons, most notably for Chattanooga visitors though are the impressive trails and sights. Lookout Mountain Attractions offers the Rock City experience, including the tight fitting quarters of Fat Man's Squeeze, the Incline Railway, and even access to the Ruby Falls cave.

Adventure
Walking the gnome and mythical creature-lined trails around Rock City can be an adventure in itself. The statuettes were placed originally by the wife of the original owner, who had a penchant for fantasy. Travelers of all ages are sure to enjoy all that this incredible attraction has to offer. Lookout Mountain Attractions

Did not like the tourist trap aspect of it. The nature part of it was great but we did not like the way it was made into a tourist trap. Example ruby cave was destroyed but the waterfall was amazing. Caverns are not naturally that clean, the destroyed the stalactites and stalagmites that must have been there at one time. The scenery from lookout mountain was beautiful but the pathway was unnatural. We had spent time at Smoky Mountain hiking and that was natural.

I wish we had known that the Incline Railway was going to close for 30 days of maintenance the day before we got there. Otherwise, everything was interesting and enjoyable.
