Tennessee River Gorge Canyon Adventures

Set off on a guided flatwater kayak eco-tour surrounded by massive, 1,000 ft panoramic canyons and vast, unbroken habitat and take time to breathe the natural beauty of the Tennessee River Gorge in the Cumberland Plateau. Designated as a United Nation's Biosphere Reserve as one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems in the world, the Tennessee River Gorge has been carved by the continuous erosion of a 350 million year-old ancient sea. Referred to locally as Suck Creek, this majestic jewel of the
South is often referred to as the "Grand Canyon of the East" and one of the largest river gorges located only 10 miles from a mid-sized city.

Eco-tours feature history about the gorge's Civil War importance, as well as Native American culture from 12,000 years ago and its role during the Trail of Tears exile. Journey down by kayak on the same route that Chief Dragging Canoe led the Cherokees down as they fought against the white man to retain their sacred lands and river gorge. Learn the local lore about moonshine outlaws and their fast get-away cars designed to run from the federal agents, cars which became the catalyst of the modern-day Nascar race cars. And get up close and personal with some of the indigenous wildlife and diverse species, combining both endangered and still abundant indigenous wildlife, including 184 species of birds, 63 species of mammals and 193 species of butterflies. Flatwater paddling is an excellent way to exercise your mind, body and soul. Your kayak adventure down the Tennessee River Gorge's little untapped paradise may very well change your life! Perfect for family vacation adventures and group outings.
