The Performing Arts Center was designed by Cesar Pelli and opened in 1992 after a three year construction period. Donations included a $15 million allocation from the state of North Carolina, a $15 million bond referendum that was approved by the citizens of Charlotte, and an additional $32 million that was contributed by individuals, foundations, and corporations — needless to say, the theater was wanted.
Now, 14 years later, the theater is going strong with its three performance areas nearly always filled, and Broadway-quality shows being performed by the best actors that area has to offer. If you're in the area, and looking for outstanding live theatre, you simply must stop by.
