The historic highway is known as Interstate 74, and traverses throughout much of North Carolina, with a west end that begins in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The construction lasted throughout the 1940s, and made Independence Boulevard the first highway throughout Charlotte. Today, it is a proud testament of civil engineering, and a fantastic place to enjoy a meal or go sightseeing.
